Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 5838
AutoCorrect: enDash replacement doesn't work after punctuation
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
Normally the " - " is replaced by " -- " (where "--" = Alt-0150). (in other words: The Sequence [blank]-[blank] is replaced normally by [blank][Alt-0150][blank]. In one special case, only if the last character before the first [blank] is the german "unquote" character, this replacement is NOT made by OpenOffice 1.0. it stays as: [a word][german unquote][blank][- ][blank].
Reporter, I have some questions concerning your bug report: Could you attach an example-file? What problems are caused by that "bug" Do you still see it in OOo 1.0.3? Rainer
Created attachment 6143 [details] screenshot, see short '-' after "Berber" !
Created attachment 6144 [details] textfile with example (hope you can see the effect)
This bug now is confirmed and should get status "NEW" (I have no rights to change status)
Hi OOo-staff, it is quite dispiriting for all helpers If there is absolutely no reaction from OOo-staff to the bug-reports - not even a change of the issue status from unconfirmed to new! This bug is well known, there is no problem to reproduce it, but status stays on "unconfirmed" and stays and stays and stays .... Rainer
Confirmed. Reproducible with OOo 1.1 beta2 on Windows 2000. Auto replacement does not replace short dash with endash as it should after a german closing double quote. Perhaps dash replacement should generally be less restrictive - it doesn't work after any of !§$%&)}]
SBA->RainerBielefeld: Feel free to become member of the OO.org QA project. After running through, say, 2000 bugs (some of them with more or less helpful descriptions 10 times longer than this one you would think and write slightly different. Thanks for your comprehension. SBA->OS: Same in Version 644m13s2. It looks like the two AutoCorrection features "Custom Quotes" and "dashes" refuse to work at the same time.
OS: Title changed. The problem is not one special quote. The AutoCorrection replaces the dash only when it's included in characters, numbers and brackets. It has to be determined which other characters should be allowed or not.
