Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 57979
Smarter user settings transfer in OOo 2.0.x dev
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:34:03 UTC
I have both 1.1.4 and 2.0 versions on my system. Now, I've installed OOo 2.0.x m139. The installer suggested to transfer and use the settings from 1.1.4. I find it quite stupid and annoying considering that 2.0 already is there. So, the suggestion is that the installer of 2.0.x-dev check first for the settings from 2.0 (and, possibly, silently use them) and only if not found, for 1.1.4.
The typical OOo user has just one OOo 2.0 version on his computer. For this user a migration of user settings from OOo 2.0 to 2.0 doesn't make sense and so I don't see the need for so much effort.
> For this user a migration of user settings from OOo 2.0 to 2.0 doesn't make sense Right, but for a user that does already have 2.0, migration from 1.1.4 or 1.1.5 or any before-2.0 makes even less sense — that's what I want to say. Consider, that in future we are going to upgrade to 2.0.1. In such a case, using 2.0 settings is a more reasonable solution than reverting to 1.1.4.
To make the case clearer: suppose, I had 1.1.4 and uninstalled it. The user settings, however, will still be there. I bet, a "typical" OOo user won't guess that and won't guess how to remove! Then I install 2.0, use it for some time and then want to upgrade to 2.0.1. So, the installer will still suggest me to import 1.1.4 settings, what makes no sense. I believe, it's quite feasible for the installer to check, if there are already setting for the version to be installed.
I upgraded 2.0.4 to 2.1, and OOo transferred settings from 1.1.5 instead of from 2.0.4.
