Description scagni 2005-11-10 13:22:52 UTC
I am having serious problems saving writer docs with embedded math formulas in
ms word format. Many simbols get corrupted and make the formula unreadable.
As example see the following attached files:
Formula orginal.odt - a writer doc with a formula
Formula exported OK to wordoc with oo113.doc - this was the result when saving
as word 97etc. with OO113. If you open it with MS Word 2003 (or 97) it is
perfectly OK.
Formula exported wrong to wordoc with oo200.doc - this is the result when saving
the same original with OO200. If you open it with MS Word 2003 (or 97) I get a
corrupted version of the same.
To be sure I am attaching also a screen capture of how the latter shows on my
screen.
To add to this, when you doubleclick on a formula in word, the OLE editing does
not work (menus swith to those of OO formula editor, but you have no way to
change the text undrlying the formula) and the object disappears completely when
you close it!
This happens when options are set so that formulas in docs exported to MSword
format are kept in the original format. If you set the option to convert them in
"MS equation editor" format instead, they get out corrupted when opening the doc
with Word. However, if you doubleclick on them and then close them again they
become OK. The problem here is that if you have many formulas, you have to open
them one by one every time you save a doc in MSword format.

I have discovered right now that MS word 97 behaves differently (and better!)
than the 2003 version on this respect.
If I open the exported doc (with OO200 options set to save formulas in its own
format on the Word export) in word97, doubleclick on a formula that looks
corrupted, I get a grey rectangle; if I close the object clicking elsewhere
nothing changes.
BUT: if I instead, using in MSWord OLE menus (identical to those you get in
OO200 when editing the formula) that are shown when you doubleclick, set the
formula in "text mode" (it's the last command of the "format" menu), then
immediately deactivate the "text mode" command (it's a switch really), when you
close ther object the formula remains (it was disappearing when opened in MS
word 2003) AND IT IS NOT CORRUPTED ANYMORE: not it is identical to the original
desired one. You can also save the doc from word and the formulas "treated" this
way remain OK.

This is the same problem as issue 53223.
