Description lars.nooden 2005-11-09 08:18:21 UTC
The many OOo mailing lists currently embed list management information in the message headers.
Can the 'list-archive' header be added to those, please? Accessing the archive of old messages is one
of the more important advantages of using list.

That would provide a quick link to the lists messages down in the email list management information
link which mail clients use to make hyperlinked shortcuts for those functions. Otherwise, it can be
difficult and slow to rummage around on the web to find or re-find the archive every time an old
message or thread is sought.

The header and its content would look something like this:

     list-archive: <http://marketing.openoffice.org/servlets/SummarizeList?listName=dev&by=date>

The lists already use three other list headers, so adding 'list-archive' should be easy:

    list-help: <mailto:discuss-help@openoffice.org>
    list-unsubscribe: <mailto:discuss-unsubscribe@openoffice.org>
    list-post: <mailto:discuss@openoffice.org>

Collabnet is calling these headers "trailers", if that helps any.
Comment 2 lars.nooden 2006-03-08 09:09:54 UTC
still there, even on other lists
Comment 3 stx123 2006-03-17 07:10:29 UTC
reassigning to support
Comment 4 Unknown 2006-03-22 12:01:02 UTC
Filed an internal ticket to the product management team to know whether this can
be considered in future, though the current mailing list would be replaced by
new discussion service soon.

Hmmm. I'd very much like to see this function. It should be a matter of adding
one line of text in a configuration file or one line of code to a program.

If Collabnet cannot handle that then it I would really suggest disposing of
Collabnet and, for that matter, avoiding any other CMS in the future. CMS
packages seem to waste more time and cause more work than they save.

Alternatives for the mailing software include Majordomo and GNU Mailman. Both
are flexible, easy to use and maintain.

Alternatives for the web site include some combination of CVS or SVN plus
filesharing like AFS or Samba.

Alternatives for the ticketing subsystem include Request Tracker and Bugzilla.

In the new Discussion a facility has been provided wherein Custom Header
information can be added for a mailing list .

Moving this issue in the resolved later queue .
Comment 8 Unknown 2007-09-19 10:24:44 UTC
Updating the issue with the appropriate milestone .
Comment 9 lars.nooden 2007-09-19 10:52:59 UTC
OK.

Maybe managing the lists with mailman or majordomo might make things easier in
this case and many other areas.

It's a mailing list task, adding one line to a file for headers used in outgoing
messages.

For a model, see

 http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/

 http://www.greatcircle.com/majordomo/

Comment 13 maison.godard 2007-10-10 12:14:35 UTC
As OOo mailing exchange grow, this is a needed feature

I would say that the link can be visible in the bottom-signature of the email
instead of being hidden in the header user usually do not know where they are
But we can live with that ...

I reopen the issue si that it is analyzed again

laurent, feel free, too, to add this to the wiki on requirements...

New Discussion Services, replacement for mailing lists since CEE5.0, allows the
list owners/admins to add further headers like list-archive at discussion level
[& also in domain level, access restricted to Domain Admins though].

Marking as Resolved/Fixed per CollabNet's policy as this feature is available in
Discussion Services.
