Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 5692
soffice application crashes when trying to save writer file.
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
When trying to save a Writer file the soffice.exe application crashes. When you choose "Save As" the "Save as"-dialog correclty appears, but as soon as you push the save button, the following message appears: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error Program: <SERVER>\<SHARE>\Openoffice\soffice.exe abnormal program termination To test this issue I created a Ghost of my system and tested the following, hope it helps you. Between each test I reghosted my computer. Client System: Win2k SP2 (Danish) with IE 5.01 Server system: Win2k SP2 (US) with IE 5.5 (SP2) Test 1. OO1.0 has been installed on the server, using the /net option, and the installtion folder is shared to all users, and all users have complete acces to the folder (both read and write). The network share is also mapped by the client. The client has then been installed using the setup file located in the network installation folder, by a user with PowerUser rights. Trying to save either a newly created or a loaded file causes soffice.exe to crash. Test 2. The client user now has administrative rights. Same result. Test 3. OF1.0 is now installed on the local harddrive, again using the /net option (by an Admin). The user now have PowerUser rights. The test now turns out ok, no crash. Is it no longer possible to create one installation for the entire network, like you could with StarOffice 5.2?
Please help us to analyse your problem. Have a look at the path for temporary files by opening the dialog Tools/Options/Paths. Is it empty or contains unreadable characters. Thanks Stefan
Please, please, please: ALWAYS comment what happens when you try the same with spreadsheets and Presentations. This seems like a general problem (See the question from Stefan Taxhet) and not limited to the word processor. I therefore change the component to "framework". Reassigned to Uwe.
Hi Anders, did you use special character for the user name? E.g. the O with diagonal stroke or blank or other?
Sorry for not answering straight away, but I have been on vacation. One thing I forgot to mention in my first post was, that I'm running the Danish version of OpenOffice 1.0. Sorry for not mentioning it in the first post. 1. The Temporary Base value is set to the Temp folder in the Windows directory, which the user hass full access to. 2. The problem also happens in Calc and Impress. 3. I'm not using anything fancy. I'm just saving the file as "abc" I have also found, that the same error appears when I click the Macro menu-item in the Functions menu.
I have been on vacation too therefore this late answer. It works for me in a german and in an english version. The danish version is not supported by us. Please take contact to which you referred the danish version. Possibly it is at compiling, because of the translation.......?????
The danish version is not supported by us therefore closed
