Description jpollock 2002-06-03 23:55:18 UTC
setup.exe crashes after registering componets. It displays the following
message: "setup.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You
will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."

I will attach both the Dr. Watson and setup.log files.

Now, whenever I try to start any of the OOffice programs, the same error
occurs. I will attach the Dr. Watson for that error as well.

When I attempt to re-run setup it says, "OpenOffice.org 1.0 is already
installed in the c:\Apps\OOffice directory." When I attempt to run the setup
in that directory, it says, "The installation program cannot find the script
file in which all of the instructions required for installation have been
saved." This is the same message that I receive when I try to un-install the
program with Add/Remove Programs. This prevents me from cleanly un-installing
OOffice.

Open Office works just fine on my Windows XP box and another Windows 2000
Thinkpad. The one it is failing on is my work laptop and maybe SMS or
OfficeScan is causing some trouble. Unfortunately, I can't turn those off.

I have tried StarOffice 5.2, and several releases prior to 1.0 of OpenOffice
and this issue has always been there. When looking through the bugs, I find
something similar under bugs, 111, 1111, 4086, 4397, 4631, 4688.

I think this error is happening often enough to not close with WORKSFORME.

The setup.log has one error at line 947:
ERR make folder OpenOffice.org 1.0 ERR

The setup.log files last line looks like it was interrupted.
   OK register component: tvhlp1.dll :
All the previous lines ended with "applicat.rdb".

I've tried installing in in both the default C:\Program Files directory and one
without spaces, "C:\Apps\OOfice". Both times it failed in exactly the same
manner.

Let me know if there is anything else I can provide.

Thanks,

Reported as issue 4397.
The hint in 4631 might lead to the the problem (install on Fat32
causes a problem, o.k. on NTFS).

I have the exact same problem with installing 1.0.1. Though I'm a
rookie, I saw something that caught my eye... Trend Officescan.
Could this be blocking the registry? I can't deactivate it either,
but I'll contact my IT guy and have him deactivate the I/O scan.
I'll let you know what happens.
