Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 55272
/etc/openoffice-2.0 is a dead symlink
Last modified: 2005-10-03 19:34:12 UTC
Testing install on debian-sarge. Converted rpms to deb using alien; installed via dpkg. When complete, found that /usr/bin/soffice is a dead link. /usr/bin/soffice is a symlink to /etc/openoffice-2.0/program/soffice. But /etc/openoffice-2.0 is a dead symlink to /opt/openoffice2.0.0, which does not exist. However, /opt/openoffice2.0 _does_ exist. So the problem is fixed by deleting /etc/openoffice-2.0, and creating a new symlink with ln -s /etc/openoffice-2.0 /opt/openoffice2.0 Now /usr/bin/soffice points to the right place and works.
Hi antiskid, thanks for using and supporting OpenOffice.org... I use Ubuntu (which is debian based) and OOo from ftp.linux.cz... I don't get your problem since the described "/etc/openoffice-2.0" does not exist on my system... in a shell I do "ls -l /etc/openoffice*" and I get lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 2005-09-18 19:40 /etc/openoffice.org-1.9 -> /opt/openoffice.org1.9.130
This issue pertains to the 2.0-rc1 linux download, which unpacks into a directory named OOO680_m1_native_packed-5_en-US.8958. The issue was not present in the previous release, which was part of the 1.9 series. When opening the issue, the latest release I could pick was beta2 - I think this must be identical to rc1.
I use the 2.0.0 rc1 RPM on Fedora Core 4, and this is my symlink (not dead): lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Sep 28 21:49 /etc/openoffice.org-2.0 -> /opt/openoffice.org2.0
The symlink is contained in the debian package openoffice.org-debian-menus_2.0.0-1_all.deb. This package would not be installed on Fedora. It is a debian-only issue.
