Description Unknown 2002-06-02 11:06:32 UTC
First : I don't know the word used for the french term "Cellules fusionnées", so
I call it "joined cells"

Make a border on a table, then join all the cells in a row of this table.
Only the left border will be kept, the right one will disappear (I suppose the
created cell take the format of the left cell, which is right, except for the
right border of course)

The same problem exists vertically.

Tested on Ooo1.0 under NT4 SP6 and Linux MDK 8.2.

I don'k know how M$ Excel does that.

Hi Christophe,
I guess (being not an native speaker too) joined cells is OK but we
use to call them merged cells.

Reproduced.
- Select range
- Define Border
- Merge top row
-> Right border disappears

Excel handles it correct.

Best regards, Peter

It works as intended. When cells are merged, the top left cell is
displayed in the whole merged area, including its formatting like borders.

IMHO it's a shame. When the user chooses to merge cells,
he wants to merge cells, not to suppress borders.

Ok, in this case it's a poor design of the feature. This _*HAS*_ to
change. I declare this as enhancement. I declare as well that I will
strain nervs to get this issue done.

Falko,
now you're the one to take action.

Best regards, Peter
P.S.: Christophe you're right.

Example:
- Define a range of cells (A1 - D6)
- Add a border to this range
- Now one has a "bordered" range from A1 - D6
- Select A1 - D1 and combine those cells (Format - Merge)
- The right border in this row (1) is gone
While there is a good technical reason for this (the dominant merged
cell A1 has no right border) it is very confusing for the user.
We need to change this
