Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 54575
Greek alphabet
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:54:45 UTC
Using the "Catalog" option under the "Tools" menu, the Greek symbols do not appear in the order of the Greek alphabet. They are sorted by their romanized names, i.e. Alpha, Beta, Chi, ..., vartheta, xi, zeta. The proper alphabetic order is alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, kappa, lambda, mu, nu, xi, omicron, pi, rho, sigma, tau, upsilon, phi, chi, psi, omega. The variant forms should probably appear after the appropriate miniscule forms.

You can (not easily for a loser view) circumvent the problem with a copy&paste of greek formatted chars.
Sorry, my last report is incorrect. It refers to a problem of oo2rc3 that is not able to (easily) insert non standard chars in formula editor but using cut&past. I think it is worth a different bug report. Please reset my last comment since it seems that (for me) is a write-only function.
