Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 54415
Copy-paste of an object selection from Calc/Draw to Writer loses objects on save/reload
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
*** My configuration *** I replicated the bug under the following 2 configurations : - OOo1.9.125 under WinXp Sp1 - OOo1.9.125 under Mandrakelinux10.1 No bug occured with OOo1.1.4 under Mandrakelinux10.1 *** Context and description *** The bug occurs when a user wants to copy a selection of charts from Calc and paste them in a Writer document with Normal paste (= [ctrl]+v), which is equivalent to Special paste/"drawing format". After pasting: - Save as: doesn't work. The Writer document cannot be saved but OOo doesn't crash. Already opened documents can be saved - Save =[ctrl]+s (which means the document was already saved before the pasting action): OOo1.9.125 crashes *** Protocol to replicate the bug *** 1- in a new Calc spreadsheet, create 2 diagrams (or use the Basic_chart_file.ods attached file) 2- select the 2 diagrams (click on the first one, [shift]+click on the second one) 3- copy the selection ([ctrl]+c) 4- open a new Writer document, or an existing one 5- paste ([ctrl]+v), or Special paste with "Drawing format" (my translation from French) 6- try to save the Writer document : ° Save as: doesn't work. A message box pops up and says (translated from French) "Error while saving NoName... Writting error. Writting error of the file ." The file is created but its size is 0Ko. ° Save: OOo1.9.125 crashes completely. *** Bug replication *** Fellows from dev@fr.openoffice.org already confirmed the bug on: - OOo1.9.125 under Win2K This a call for other users to confirm the bug on other configurations. Sympathicamicalement, Luc Sorel
Created attachment 29441 [details] This is an OOo2 Calc file with 2 diagrams, to be used to replicate the bug.
Following the same process, issue confirmed with - m121 Linux Intel - m128 Mac OS X ( both Tiger / Panther ) Exactly the same error, but no crash for me
On m128, WinXP SP1 : impossibility to save but no crash. Fousage
issue confirmed with m125 and W2K Exactly the same error, but no crash
On my configurations (Winxp Sp1 or Mandrakelinux), OOo1.9m125 crashes when the Writer file is saved a first time BEFORE the protocol and then when [ctrl]+s is done AFTER the protocol. This means to me that OOo crashes with an existing file, whereas it doesn't with a temporary one.

This means to me that OOo crashes with an existing file, whereas it doesn't with a temporary one. I hope this comment will help. Luc
On a WinXP SP2 station with 00o 1.9.128 I have the same bug. But no crash. The same impossibility to save when i try with only one graph (after deleting 1 diagram in the spreadsheet). Francois
Following the same process, issue confirmed with - m128 Win NT / SP6 Intel Exactly the same error, but no crash for me
Here is a summary of the tests done by people of dev@fr.openoffice.org after a "multiple chart" copy-paste from Calc to Writer (OOo1.9m12x): *** IMPOSSIBLE TO SAVE a new Writer document confirmed on : - m125 under WinXp Sp1 - m125 under Mandrakelinux10.1 - m125 under Win2K - m121 Linux Intel - m128 Mac OS X (both Tiger/Panther) - m128 WinXP SP1 - m128 WinXP SP2 station - m125 W2K - m128 WinXP SP2 station - m128 Win NT / SP6 Intel *** OOo CRASHES when saving an existing Writer document observed on: - m125 under WinXp Sp1 (just my computer) - m125 under Mandrakelinux10.1 (just my computer) The other testers have not observed the bug, or not systematically. *** HINT to fix the bug Remarks from testers suggest that the bug could be related to an initialisation problem of the Writer document, because OOo behaves in a diferent way after the copy-paste according to the state of the Writer file (existing or temporary). We hope this will help to fix the bug!
MRU->MAV: In Calc or Draw copy a selection of two OLE objects to Clipboard. Paste this into Writer and try to save the document -> "Write Error".

MAV->MRU: There was a number of fixes in this area. Currently seems to work well for me in COV680m3.
MRU->MAV: in the newer build the objects now completely vanish upon save/reload, which is slightly better; but should be fixed in the future
Yes, I didnt try to reload the document. I will investigate the problem.
The objects seem to be correctly stored into the document. Moreover the content.xml stream contains links to the objects.
Hello, I don't know if I (a basic OOo user) should keep on documenting this issue now that mav and mru are working on it. I replicate the bug on OOo1.9m130 Kubuntu 5.04 (.deb packages downloaded from Pavel's site). I observed : - a corruption of the Writer's File/Save if the Writer file is a "new" document (=never saved before) when saving with File/Save as; - a complete crash (with automatic saving and restoration) of OOo with an "existing" document (=already saved before) when saving with File/Save. I hope this will help. Thanks to the developers for the work done and to do! Luc
This is a duplicate to the issue 50824. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 50824 ***
MAV->LUCSOREL: Thank you for the additional information. This issue is a duplicate to issue 50824. The original problem should be fixed in OOo1.9m132 in the way that while copying a multiselection of objects, no embedded object must be copied ( although it is still possible to copy them one by one ), for details please see the issue 50824. Please reopen this issue if you can reproduce the problem in OOo1.9m132 or later version.
