Description Unknown 2002-05-27 07:38:38 UTC
Installation on Win2000 5.00.2195 SP2 on a machine with Office97 SR-2 already
installed.

Installation of OpenOffice seems to have messed with Office97 a bit (I still
need Office for a couple of things - and a happy co-habitation of my machine
with MS Office is important as I transition to OpenOffice completely):

When opening a document from Windows Explorer (ie double click on .DOC file -
as opposed to File/Open) the filename is lost and Word97 defaults back
to "Document1" name. Also all path information is lost by Word when doing this.

I've re-mapped the ".DOC" file extension back to Word97 manually after
installing open office.

My appologies - just a dumb user issue (ie me=dumb user). When I re-
mapped the .DOC filetype manually I didn't complete it properly (in
case anyone happens upon this issue - don't forget the following
setup params in filetype settings):

App used:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe" /n

It does raise a query in my mind however - and that is, when I elect
during install to have MS Office document support - should OpenOffice
offer me the choice to leave my default filetype mappings in place??
(yes IMHO).
