Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 5209
Text boxes created in MS Word don't import correctly.
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:21 UTC
Text boxes created in Microsoft Word, in the header or footer area, and outside the left or right margins do not maintain their position when opened in Open Office Writer. All text boxes created as described, when opened in Writer, appear at the top of the page irrespective of their position when created in MS Word. This error is reproducible. Occurs on all versions of Windows and with documents created in all versions of MS Word greater that 97. I can provide sample documents if required. Thanks.

Okay, this document actual is a combination of a bunch of know issues. First of all, the text box placement problem on how OOo treats the anchor point of the text box. OOo will try to anchor the textbox to the main page. Please see issue 3988. The text box anchored to the footer has problems with position because of how OOo handles the footer height. Please see issue 3808. This said, there is a workaround for this document. Anchor all of the text boxes to the main page and set the positioning to absolute based on the margins. With this minor twiddling, I was able to get the doc to look the same in OOo and Word. I'm going to mark this as a dup of 3988. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 3988 ***

It would appear that the text boxes are already anchored to the page, and I can't see where to set the positioning to absolute based on the margins. Can you clarify please? - Thanks, Grahame.
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved duplicate issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
