Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 5206
Automagic filename guess
Last modified: 2014-02-26 15:47:59 UTC
When I save a document using a wordprocessor or spreadsheet, most of the time the first line of text in a textdocument or the A1-cell in a spreadsheet is descriptive enough to use as the filename. MS Office has the functionality to use this text as the default filename for a document, and it saves me the time to choose a filename (or, I can keep my mind at the document, and don't have to think about the filename at all). Being used to that, in OpenOffice.org I always copy/paste the first line, remove unwanted characters (like '/' or '\') from it and use that as filename. Can't this be automated?
TM->FT: This one is a wish for a feature, so please have a look, thanks !
I have written a little macro that does this for word processor documents. I wanted it for myself. Never thought of spreadsheets. It would be nice to have it done professionally, though:-)
Set to "NEW"
Use automated filenames. Example: the first sentence in a Writer document is "My little wordbook". Now Writer could suggest when saving the untitled new document to name it to "My little wordbook" as a highlighted suggestion in the "Save" file name text box of the "Save" dialogue Suggestion: Writer: Use the first sentence on the first page (not header) as the file name Impress: If there is a title on the first pslide use its content (otherwise do not) Draw/Calc: Do not apply this feature!
