Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 5168
Enhance OOo to use GhostScript on Windows to create PDF files
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
I think it would be a good idea to integrate OOo with GhostScript on the Windows platform to create PDF files. GhostScript is also open source for Windows and so OOo should benefit from that (I know that it is possible already on Linux). This should be possible for all OOo applications (Writer, Calc, Draw, Impress). Sorry that I put it under the word processor component, but I did not know what component to choose.
Joost->Ansgar: Everyone is able to install Ghostscript for himself. Why should OpenOffice.org bundle it ?
Ansgar->Joost: Sorry, but I think there is a misunderstanding. I did not meant that GhostScript should be bundled with OOo. What I meant was that there should be an interface in OOo to use GhostScript to create directly a PDF-File. Currently it is necessary to print to an installed PostScript printer with the output as a file. Then I have to manually invoke GhostScipt to convert it to a PDF-File. It would be ideally to have a switch in the print dialog to directly create the PDF-File with the help of GhostScript (if it is already installed on the user's system).
Export to pdf is already working in last week's StarOffice internal build (srx643z onwards). The soon-to-come 643c of oo.org will not yet have it (it's based on , but it should be integrated in the next one. -> Already underway. Changed resolution to "Remind".
=> works in current version OOo 1.1 Beta2! => closed
