Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 51308
Impress/Draw: wrong string in menu ("guides" instead of "snap lines")
Last modified: 2013-02-07 21:54:04 UTC
changed component and summary
module Impress: Wrong string in contextmenu, must be "Führungslinien" instead of "Fanglinien", same in online-help
The same problem exists in Draw: In menu "Ansicht": Führungslinien. In menu "Einfügen": Fangpunkt/Linie einfügen.
changing summary to include lang. target =2.0.1 Accept issue (change status to STARTED)
Hi timi_openoffice, Is "Fanglinien" part of a longer string or is it a word just by its self? If it is part of a longer string can you please quote the complete string here? (to make it easy for me to find) Is the letter 'e' underlined (ie. keyboard shortcut)? Thanks, Iano

Impress: "F&angpunkt/-linie einfügen..." is in the context menue you get by a right click in a site in impress. Also "Fanglini&en" is in the context menue and opens a new menu with "&Fanglinien sichtbar", "&An Fanglinien fangen" and "Fanglini&en vorn". The word Fanglinien also occures many times in the help text starting with "Fangpunkt/-linie Hier können Sie einen Fangpunkt oder eine vertikale/horizontale Fanglinie definieren, um Objekte daran auszurichten. Die eingefügten Fangpunkte und Fanglinien werden bei der Präsentation und beim Drucken nicht gezeigt. Sie brauchen das Raster nicht zu aktivieren, um Fangobjekte zu nutzen." Draw: The context menu and help text is the same how in Impress. Addititionaly "F&angpunkt/-linie einfügen..." is an an item in the menu "&Einfügen" (view).
Mayby it is usefuller to leave "Fanglinien" how it is and replace "Führungslinien" by "Fanglinien". This would be less work and furthermore the raster items are translated as "Am Raster fangen" - so "Fanglinien" would be more closer to this translation. (On the other hand it could be confusing.)
Please change the 'assigne to' back to iano, when the needed information is given. I took this now.

Hi Tbo, This is a UI issue. Can you please assign to the appropriate developer? Thanks, Ian
This is not only DE; If you take a look at the english version: Menu: Guides; Kontextmenu: Snap Lines ->WG: Any hints, why it is named this way? Should it be changed in all languages? ->Target: later, since it would affect all languages and help.
Reassigned. This should be redesigned....
Almost 2 years for a simple string renaming ;-) Any news on this issue?
Okay. The point is that OOo uses 2 different names for the same thing: "guides" and "snap lines" (see attached screenshots). This should be changed. I recommend to change "guides" to "snap lines" as "snap lines" seems to be more often used than "guides". Furthermore, there would be no need to update the translation when you use exactly the "snap lines" strings also for "guides". So this really isn't a big thing. In the help, you can find both expressions, so also the help should be adopted.

Hi timi_openoffice, please do not change Target milestone, as this is set by the responsible developer. Also do not change Version, this should be the version, where the issue occured the first time. setting back changes @cj: Please check, if a fix is possible for 2.x?
Please notice, that there is issue 46691 about the different terms in English.
Dear developers, different wording confuses users. What is the current status of this issue? What are the plans? Please consider for 2.3. Thanks a lot.
