Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 50815
Error report - no feedback if receive at OO
Last modified: 2006-02-09 09:31:18 UTC
Dear OO-developers, I receive frequently dumps in OO and I try to send these error reports to you. A bit frustrating is that I do not receive a feedback if the error has succesfully received by you. I'm behind a proxy and I'm not sure if OO makes it through. In OO 1.1.4 I alway receive: "Failed to send error report". Could you perhaps add also a message in the case the sending was succesfull? Something like: "Successfully send the error reports" in case it was send through? Best regards, Lars
of @ ja: Please have a look.
JA: the "failed to send error report" message appears if eg. the system is behind a proxy. Please configure proxy settings within the cash reporter application. If you add a valid email address to the crash reporter settings then you usually receive an email which shows you that the crash report has been processed by the backend. Otherwise there's no dialog and AFAIK there's no dialog planned
JA: closing as worksforme
Hello, sorry to re-open the issue. Don't you think a dialog like "Thank you for your feedback..." would make sense? Not that this is a critical thing, but really a "nice-to-have". It is not "rewarding" if you try to crash the tool and finally are successful but do not receive any feedback if your effort was useful or not. Unfortunately ;-) the new beta 2 does not crash frequently any more. Is there a way to crash OO manually to check the message "Cannot send" message, e.g. without beeing connect to a network? I tried crashrep.exe, crashrep.com but did not receive any pop-up. Best regards, Lars
JA: Im not convinced if a dialog will be something which will help the user. Currently the dialog to send a crash report will close if the report is sent. It is very unlikely to have a direct communication between application and soap interface at the backend as the soap interface will just pass the error reports through to the backend infrastructure. If we add a bi-directional communication to that interface then we might get in trouble by a possible high load. In this case every user who would use the crash reporter at the same time would be affected. If we add a dialog which pops up if a crash report is sent (independent from the fact that it might not be sent due to network problems...) then the user would have to interact everytime just to close that dialog. Sending this issue as type "enhancement" to HRO. JA->HRO: AFAIK there is another issue for a feature like this which you already dismissed. Reassigning to you
