When importing the attached Microsoft Word 2000 document and previewing/printing
Writer puts a blank page first.  

I have not found a way of removing this blank page.

Though the document is not attached, I am sure, it is because the document
starts with page number 2. Writer's concept on managing page layout is referred
to a book's style, means even page number is always a left page which must be
preceeded by a right page.
There already is an issue for this; see issue 3910.
