Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 4847
Formatting Changes when reopening a document
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
Often when I save an OpenOffice document, close OpenOffice and then reopen my document many of my formatting changes have not been saved. Often a graphic will be moved, sometimes onto a different page, or line feeds will be be removed so that a paragraph starting at the top of a page will now start at the bottom of the previous page. To fix this I've had to be very careful in setting manual page breaks and throughly checking any document before I print it.
Thanks for the post Benjamin. Do you have some documents which cause the behaviour you posted? Please attach the document to this issue ( 4847 )
Unable to duplicate issue on Solaris 8, latest SunSolve core and J2SE patches, CDE. Created a document with lines of text spaced out using line feeds/carriage returns. Created a document with lines of text and graphics spaced out using line feeds/carriage returns. Both documents were saved in OO text format. Documents reloaded with layout intact.
Unable to duplicate on RedHat 7.3, Gnome, OO 1.0.
Is it possible that this is due to formatting technique? Would it be possible to attach a document that shows these traits? I have seen behavior like this before I learned how to format well (and not necessarily in OOo). Now I typically run word processor docs with the formatting symbols turned on. Otherwise, things like linefeeds, carriage returns, spaces, and tabs can cause what seems to be squirrelliness, because they are invisible if they are not turned on. When they are invisible, and you rely on them to neaten the format, they can be added inadvertently, and the formatting does not always remain consistent. Could this be what is affecting the document?
Closing issue for now. Benjamin, if this problem still exists in the latest version of OOo, feel free to post a new issue.
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved <wontfix/duplicate/worksforme/invalid> issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
