Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 47952
Impress - Bitmap background import should be available in Slide setup
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:08:47 UTC
Hi, To set a custom bitmap as background of an Impress presentation (All versions), one as to go to "Format > Area > Background > Import" menu. There the user add his background to a list of predefined background, letting him re-use his background later by. To do the same thing in MS product, one has to right-click on a slide and choose "Background > Bitmap > Browse". This is much more quicker (and to me, intuitive). When migrating to OOo, ex-MS user will right-click on a slide and look into "Page setup" for "Background > Bitmap". This is ok. The problem is user can not import his own bitmap from the "Page setup" window. Instead, help says that you have to close page setup window and go to "Format > Area" etc. Bitmap background import should be available in Slide setup. This can be done by simply add a button (Browse or Import) in Slide setup window. This enhancement would be greatly helpfull to : 1/ migrate user from MS that are used to right click > page setup 2/ people like me who do not use a background twice in there life Thanks for reading this issue and have a nice day.
Changed to enhancement.

It is difficult to add background images to your presentations since you have to first add the background that you want to use into the library of bitmaps even though you only want to use the background image for only one presentation. This would also be nice for the gradients since you have to add a gradient to the gradient library in order to use a custom gradient just one time.
you can do it 1) open ms powerpoint and add a background bitmap to your slide 2) save the document under the ppt format 3) open it with openoffice.org and save it at the sxi format there is a tip, to use it without powerpoint 1) find ONE ppt with a custom bitmap 2) open the file with ooo, and save it in the sxi format 3) unzip the sxi and find where is the bitmap 4) change it with the bitmap you want 5) zip all in a sxi format 6) edit your slide as usual that's all it's easy
an other workaround in the background model, insert a rectangle draw and fill it with you bitmap move it to back set transparancie of each element background to 100%
I take over this issue, not sure when we will have developer resources for it yet. Anyone likes to volunteer?
I wish I had time for this...

It is implemented in newer Versions. I don't know since wich Version. In OOo 3.3 or AOO 3.4 you get it with RightClick on a slide > Slide > Set Background Picture for a slide ... So I think this one should be closed. Bug 27821, Bug 46257 and Bug 49717 has same content.
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
