Test case, takes 30 seconds to save this 10 page document full of formulas, with Athlon 2600+/512MB. Time required for saving seems to increases 1 on 1 if you increase the amount of formulas( 5 pages takes 15s to save, 10 pages 30s, etc.) (41.08 KB, application/octet-stream)

Description colman 2005-04-13 19:39:20 UTC
The performance of saving a document file to disk has improved relative to the
OO1.1. version but is still not very satisfactory. I have a 40 page document
containing many formulas and references and it take about 1 minute to save it. I
know that it could be split up as a master document but this would require much
work to get the cross-references correct. Currently, before saving the fiel it
appears that some pre-processing is done before the actual write to disk takes
place. I wonder if some background processing can be performed to improve the
save to disk performance.

ES->DVO: it takes 13 sec. to save and load completly and 10 to save as on Linux
(P1800). Can we enhance the performance or do we regard this as quite normal
considering the document contains 440 (!) OLE objects?
Comment 6 colman 2005-05-13 03:28:46 UTC
I don't consider this proper performance. In fact it has become quite unwieldy
to work this way firstly because of the length of time to save the document and
secondly one gets the impression that OO is about to crash. I would appreciate
it this issue gets resolved before OO 2.0 gets out.
Comment 7 colman 2005-05-26 22:59:16 UTC
New version m104 has an even much slower save file performance than version m93

This Issue requires more information ('needmoreinfo'), but has not been updated
within the last year. Please re-test with one of the latest versions of OOo -
the problem(s) may have already been addressed. Either use the recent stable
version: http://download.openoffice.org/index.html
or consider trying the new OOo 3 BETA (still in testing):
http://download.openoffice.org/3.0beta/

Please report back the outcome so this Issue may be closed or progressed as
necessary - otherwise it may be Resolved as Invalid in the future. You may also
wish to search for (and note) any duplicates of this Issue that may have
advanced further :

Comment 9 Mathias_Bauer 2008-06-04 09:43:37 UTC
taking over as dvo doesn't work on that anymore
I would be interested also if the performance is acceptable now as we tried to
optimize storing of documents with OLE objects some time ago.
