Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 46655
Unable to save a soft link
Last modified: 2005-04-11 00:33:43 UTC
I am unable to save a file that is a soft link to another document in the same directory. When I save, I get the error "Could not create backup copy". I have turned off automatic backups in the options. The following steps reproduce the problem: 1. Create a one line document and save it as /tmp/a.sxw 2. Create a hard link and soft link to the document using commands "ln /tmp/a.sxw /tmp/ah.sxw" and "ln -s /tmp/a.sxw /tmp/as.sxw" 3. Open the soft link file with the command "ooffice /tmp/as.sxw". Add a line to it, save. Notice the error dialog. Exit application, which will give warning about discarding modifications. Verify that the added line is not in the document. 4. Follow the same steps using the hard link. Notice that changes get saved. Why I need this to work: Without this, I can have soft links to documents on my desktop that I can access easily. #40750 seems related in that it gives the same error message but this does not involve mounting so I am assuming it is different.
Framework issue.
Hi hemalpandya, thanks for using and supporting OpenOffice.org... Does this happen to you using OOo1.1.4 or OOo2.9beta (or newer), too?
BTW: I had no problem saving to that softlink on Fedora Core Rawhide using OOo1.1.3...
worksforme...
Hi mci, I do not have immediate access to other versions. BTW I am on debian 2.6.8.
I see the exact same behavior on FreeBSD 5.3 using OpenOffice 1.1.2. Are debian packages available for newer versions?
