Description Unknown 2002-05-08 08:17:59 UTC
The installation works fine, until it is starting to finish the installation. I have selected the
typical installation option and Java 1.4.0 JRE from the installation options. Then at the end of
the installation the software displays a message:

The instruction at "0x002310eb"
referenced memory at "0x0[many zeros]0". The memory could not be "written".

After
installation, when trying to start any of the installed components (writer, calc, draw, ...) the
program starts loading, but before anything happens it displays this same message. When trying
to uninstall the openoffice.org through control panel's add/remove programs it displays a
message:

The installation program cannot find the script file in which...
The file was
looked in the following directory C:\setup.inf
The installation program cannot be executed
without this file

When trying to run the setup.exe program again, it displays this
message:
OpenOffice.org 1.0 is already installed...
Use the local setup program to
deinstall.

So, I cannot either deinstall or reinstall the software. I downloaded also SUN's
staroffice 5.2 and it reports the same problems when trying to install.

I had the same sorts of problems yesterday when installing using W2K
and a FAT32 volume (I put apps on FAT32 for duel boot with Windows
ME).

Installation crashed during the registering components phase of the
install. When trying to run any of the apps they just crashed out
with a referenced memory at 0x00000000 error.

Could not uninstall, or re-install. Ended up deleting the directory
and then re-installing on a NTFS volume and had no problems with that
install.
