Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 46088
Crashrep crashes
Last modified: 2005-11-03 14:01:48 UTC
Unaware of any previous problem, I was invited to recover a damaged document when I reopened plog2.sxc to use it again. After recovery I elected to send the crash report for analysis. Crashrep itself crashed - two .gif files show the information available.
Created attachment 24307 [details] plog2 spreadsheet and crashrep crash reports
plog2 was 'access denied' when I tried to copy it, so I recovered the OpenOffoce window to close it and found two copies of plog2 open. Both were closed discarding updates and the original (hopefully) plog2 put into the .zip I have no idea why I got two. Sorry to clutter the issues list with a probably unrepeatable fault - but it may shed light on other issues...
TM->JA: Please have a look, thanks !
JA->HRO: I wasn't able to reproduce the crash. Please have a look at this document from Win98. Probably you can reproduce it. Reassigned to you
I was unable to reproduce the crash when I filed the report, so it's possibly something to do with concurrency in my computer at the time, or possibly the first time use of an old format document, or some other transient problem. If Sun received an identifiably related crash report shortly before the original issue was filed, that might shed some light on what was happening to invoke crashrep. If anybody can 'read' the windows report it might shed light on what crashrep did. Otherwise this is just one of those things to remember one day when something more tangible sheds more light on it. If it doesn't illuminate anything right now I recommend downgrading it to P4 or P5.
Investigating.
I'm consistently getting a crashrep crash on Windows 98 -- haven't had it run without crashing yet. Below is one description of a crash sequence; all the problems I've had have been in Draw (though I've only been working in Draw). Not all the Draw crashes were identical -- one happened when I switched back to Draw (Alt-Tab) from editing something in Gimp2; also, I found I could get a crash like the one in the report below, but using a 2.0 Beta-created document (.odg) I don't know if crashrep is independently buggy, or if Draw is crashing crashrep. Windows 98 4.10.1998, Pentium II processor, Intel MMX, 256 MB RAM Dialup system; crashrep has crashed with dialup up, and dialup down. In the bugreport dialog tried opening the Options dialog and changing those; tried both System settings and Direct connection. (Sorry for vagueness, don't have the thing in front of me.) Draw: After opening 1.1.0 draw document -- paged up & down in both view pane (L) and main window, and picking slides that weren't contiguous by mouse, and finally skipping to last slide by mouse, got lots of disk read/write noise, followed by the M$ invalid page fault dialog: CRASHREP caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 015f:bff7b983. Registers: EAX=00000020 CS=015f EIP=bff7b983 EFLGS=00010202 EBX=00000000 SS=0167 ESP=0067e950 EBP=0067e98c ECX=7c38b4e8 DS=0167 ESI=00000020 FS=58e7 EDX=006950d8 ES=0167 EDI=7c36bb92 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 80 3e 04 74 0f 33 c0 50 50 50 68 05 00 00 c0 e8 Stack dump: 7c34f744 7c34f639 00000020 7c36bba6 00000000 7c36bb92 7c34f744 00000000 00000000 0067e964 0067e780 0067fb48 7c34240d 7c3821f8 ffffffff 0067fb54 THEN: Open Office 1.9.95 Document Recovery window came up. Interestingly, in the initial Document Recovery dialog (and not later dialogs), I could not choose anything with the mouse; had to use keyboard equivalents. Stepped through to point of sending out crashrep report -- picked the Send button. And again, I got a crashrep crash: CRASHREP caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 015f:bff7b983. Registers: EAX=00000020 CS=015f EIP=bff7b983 EFLGS=00010202 EBX=00000000 SS=0167 ESP=0067e964 EBP=0067e9a0 ECX=7c38b4e8 DS=0167 ESI=00000020 FS=6427 EDX=00695b02 ES=0167 EDI=7c36bb92 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 80 3e 04 74 0f 33 c0 50 50 50 68 05 00 00 c0 e8 Stack dump: 7c34f744 7c34f639 00000020 7c36bba6 00000000 7c36bb92 7c34f744 00000000 00000000 0067e978 0067e794 0067fb5c 7c34240d 7c3821f8 ffffffff 0067fb68
FYI, I had Writer lock up on me while editing a document (Win XP Pro), and Crashrep crashed on me as well while trying to send the report. So this is not limited to Win98

Ahmm the same thing happens to me, so I'd like to see it reopened. Here what Windows shows about crashrep: CRASHREP verursachte einen Fehler durch eine ungültige Seite in Modul KERNEL32.DLL bei 0167:bff7b992.
