Description dave8421 2005-03-27 11:32:46 UTC
WordPerfect has a different approach to autorecovery after system crash: It does
not attempt to recover the original file, instead it offers the user the
possibility of opening, renaming or deleting a numbered file, which WordPerfect
had been using parallel to the named file. This approach is more flexible than
the OpenOffice/Microsoft Word approach, and much less dangerous. Yesterday after
a system crash OpenOffice was not able to reopen a very important file of 270
pages. Using the WordPerfect approach I would at most only have lost the 1/2
hour or so between last deliberate saving of document and time of crash.

Interesting...
Not a defect, not a P1 -> enhancement, P3, later..

This is annoying since i am on a laptop that doesn't like to stand by when it
runs out of batteries. It is also fairly unsafe... I would suggest a check box
next to the title defaulted to check, so that you can choose what documents to
recover, for one, and also starting it concurrently with the rest of the
program, so that work is not delayed by running through the recovery dialog.
