Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 45788
Contextual edition of notes
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:43:03 UTC
The option to edit a note in Writer should be available both in Edit/Format menu and popup menu (right-mouse click). Now the feature must be first learned from the help documentation. Description: 1. Open a new Writer document 2. Write some arbitrary text. 3. Select Insert|Note..., write some arbitrary text into note panel and press OK. => The only way to edit the note is by double clicking it.
Help index under "notes;editing" says it: "Inserts a note at the current cursor position. To view or edit the contents of a note, select the note and choose this command." Insert Note also allows editing.
We could have an extra panel with all notes like in Word. Editing notes would then happen inline, toggling between notes and text with a Shortcut.
An extra panel like in Word is practical. With that it is easy to go through all the comments/notes and make additions. It'll be pain if all the notes must be opened separately with double click or even pointing at them to see them. If viewing/editing is done one by one like now, the menu item labels (now Insert|Note...) must somehow tell about this ('Insert' doesn't mean 'Edit').

Work for a new implementation of notes has started
Well, thinking about it... 1) we need "Edit note..." (or "comment") in the context menu 2) if we accept the fact of implementing a dialog for notes/comments management like the Accept/Reject dialog (allowing sorting/filter), one could think about a possibility to edit from this dialog... let's see.
I'm writing "Notes2" to make this issue appear in a query.
