Description cemkaner 2005-03-22 14:18:08 UTC
1. Open a word processor document
2. Select Format | Character to bring up the Character dialog. Select the Font tab.
3. The first column is labeled "Font" but the selections are names like "Arial"
and "Times New Roman." The second column is labeled "Typeface" but the
selections are weights and styles, such as "Regular" and "Bold Italic."

These are backwards. The type designs or families (such as "Times New Roman")
are typefaces. The selection of the specific style, weight and size of a
typeface is a font.

If you have doubt about this, check Google, "define typeface" and "define font."

MRU->LIZ: it looks that the correct string for OO's "typeface" should be font
style. "Font" itself is correct IMO.

I agree with MRU. My research showed...

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/t/typeface.html
"A design for a set of characters. Popular typefaces include Times Roman,
Helvetica, and Courier. The typeface represents one aspect of a font. The font
also includes such characteristics as size, weight, italics, and so on."

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/F/font.html
"A font is the combination of typeface and other qualities, such as size, pitch,
and spacing. For example, Times Roman is a typeface that defines the shape of
each character. Within Times Roman, however, there are many fonts to choose from
-- different sizes, italic, bold, and so on. (The term font is often used
incorrectly as a synonym for typeface.)"

For the German:
http://www.typolexikon.de/s/schriftstil.html
or
http://www.at-mix.de/schriftstil.htm
Schriftstil
"Gestaltungsvariation einer Schriftart, bei der die grundsätzlichen
typographischen Merkmale erhalten bleiben. z.B.: fett, kursiv, unterstrichen"
