Description Unknown 2002-05-06 20:11:41 UTC
Hi,

I don't want to waste your time but I have had problems with all the previous
versions of OpenOffice as well, thought 1.0.0 would work. StarOffice 5.2 works
on my PC but OpenOffice 1.0.0 does not want to.

I follow setup guide to the letter. When setting up I saw message saying that
locale en_ZA not supported by X windows and there was a SIG.... 00:00:00:00
(something like that) but it did not stop the installation. Everything
installed. I can see on my Gnome under Favourites is the OpenOffice menus.
When trying to start the splash sceen with OpenOffice comes up, lots grkgrkgrk
from the hard drive and then it dies. The only message I can see is locale
en_ZA not supported by X windows and then directly after that Aborted.

Can you please help me. StarOffice 5.2 also said that about en_ZA and it never
aborted. What am I doing wrong?

Please help as I would like to use OpenOffice.

Thanks,
Henk du Plessis

This will probably help it's more info for issue "4564"

[shad@shad install]$ ./setup
glibc version: 2.2.5
I18N: X Window System doesn't support locale "en_US.iso885915"

System: Red Hat "Skipjack" beta 3

Problem: looks like euro support isn't working right

Action: When you try to run OpenOffice 1.0 it segfaults at splash screen.

Here's a 'me too':

james@freezer:~/OpenOffice.org1.0 > ./soffice
I18N: X Window System doesn't support locale
"LC_CTYPE=en_GB@euro;LC_NUMERIC=en_GB@euro;LC_TIME=en_GB@euro;LC_COLLATE=C;LC_MONETARY=en_GB@euro;LC_MESSAGES=en_GB@euro;LC_PAPER=en_GB@euro;LC_NAME=en_GB@euro;LC_ADDRESS=en_GB@euro;LC_TELEPHONE=en_GB@euro;LC_MEASUREMENT=en_GB@euro;LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_GB@euro"
Aborted

Using SuSE Linux 7.2, with their latest Glibc RPM, version 2.2.2-60.

Okay, I changed en_GB@euro to just en_GB and it starts fine now.
(Well, it aborted the first time, but since then it has been okay)

I have renamed the locale en_ZA to enZA so Open Office could not get.
Then the program worked ok and started up. Thank you for all the
advice and responses to my cry for help! :-)
