Description haui 2005-03-11 11:42:31 UTC
As said in the summary, narrow restriction of the issue status in the default
query options results in a huge amount of duplicate entries. Duplicate entries
are harmful, both for the qa agent(s) *and* the reporter.
Comment 1 haui 2005-03-13 10:05:33 UTC
When searching for open problems, it is important not to exclude duplicates from
the search. The reason, why a duplicate issue has been filed is that the
original description of the problem was not found with the keywords used by the
reporter of the duplicate. Since the duplicate report will hopefully include
these additional keywords, even the duplicate is a valuable contribution - if it
is not intentionally excluded from all future searches...

Thanks 'haui' for your comment. I think the form available from
http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/project_issues.html
included closed (that also means duplicate) issues. Therefor I will resolve this
issue as worksforme. If you would like to discuss this topic I would suggest to
raise your point in the QA project - at the dev@qa.openoffice.org mailing list.

Sorry for reopening this issue, but I just had the same problem again:

As an ordinary human, when encountering a problem, I start searching for known
issues at "My pages" and then click the link "Find issues" in the navigation
bar. This directs me to "http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/query.cgi". In this
search form, the status *is* preselected in a way that really calls for
reporting duplicate issues.

OpenOffice.org Issue Tracker - Feedback Request.

The Issue you raised is currently 'Unconfirmed' pending review, but has not been
updated within the last 3 years. Please consider re-testing with one of the
latest versions of OOo, as the problem(s) may have already been addressed.
Either use the recent stable version: http://download.openoffice.org/index.html
or consider trying the new OOo 3 BETA (still in testing):
http://download.openoffice.org/3.0beta/

Please report back the outcome so this Issue may be Closed or Progressed as
necessary - otherwise it may be Resolved as Invalid in the future. You may also
wish to search for (and note) any duplicates of this Issue that may have
advanced further by checking the Issue Tracker:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/query.cgi

Many thanks,

Reset QA Contact to new default
Comment 6 Mark Thomas 2014-03-23 17:58:23 UTC
This should be handled by Bugzilla's built-in duplicate detection during issue creation.
