Description tomspuhler 2005-03-10 04:26:16 UTC
Importing EPs graphics with insert -> picture -> from file will insert the
picture. The file only shows as a box with the eps information such as the
program it was created with, size, res.
There is now preview.
When printing the document, it prints a preview of the EPS (Company LOGO).
Yes, I did print to a postscript printer. Yes the file prints correctly in MS
Word. Yes, it doesn't print in OO1.1.3 either.
If you are interested in killing any feedback, just mark this issue as a

hello tom, could you please attach the eps-file in question? thanks a lot, Max

I tested on WinXP Pro (inserted an EPS graphic). Note the graphic does not
display on the screen in Open Office Writer, only the graphic size is marked
out by a rectangle. When I made a PDF directly from Open Office Writer, the
PDF did *not* contain the graphic. However, when I print to a postscript
printer - to .prn file on disk, and then use Acrobat Distiller to convert
the .prn to .pdf, the resulting .pdf does have the original graphic (as
desired). I offer this as a hint for anyone trying to get an EPS into a PDF,
and as inspiration for the OO PDF team; it is possible to get EPS into PDF.
And it would be fantastically helpful if you could support it fully, because
the resulting PDF then has full accuracy and scales beautifully.

eps file which does not contain a TIF preview
Comment 7 lisydney 2005-04-04 21:51:56 UTC
I retested with OpenOffice.org 1.9.87 using the test.eps sample. (i.e. create a
new file, insert picture from file, select that test.eps file.) I also tried
opening the eps file in Irfan (free graphics viewer program), and Irfan gave the
error message "Irfan can only read EPS files with a TIF/WMF inside. Try with
Ghostview." So - the question is whether Open Office will try to render
contents of an EPS that does not contain a preview? Note that when a PDF is
made from the .doc file, it does NOT include the actual graphic, only a placeholder.
Comment 8 lisydney 2005-04-04 21:53:10 UTC
Note that within this issue tracker, there is no valid mime type for EPS image
files, that is why the attachment is incorrectly coded as being
application/octet-stream. And yes I tried using the "other" radio button but
that did not work.

Thanks for the feedback.

OOo doesn't have a ps-interpreter, so it can only display a preview image (if
available).

Since other issues exists already (issue 14163 for PDF-export and issue 9290 and
many others), I close this one as worksforme since the original problem
(printing did not work) disappeared.
