Description Unknown 2002-05-03 19:19:21 UTC
Often I receive as attachments MS word and excel documents which
I'd like to view using OpenOffice. Unfortunately I'm not the
original author, and I've noticed that the fonts and page attributes
are often different from the ones chosen by the author. This can
have the annoying effect of words running into each other as well
paragraphs being split between pages and other such formatting
problems.

Is there a way to ensure that OpenOffice will present the document
exactly as the author intended? I apologize if this issue is described
somewhere in the docs. I did make a fair attempt to locate.

Document import is not a photo copy. It is a migration of a document's
contents to another system (In your case from MS Word on Windows to
Openoffice.org on Solaris). As a starter, the Windows and Solaris
system have different fonts available, so the fonts in the document
must be replaced with available fonts that get as close as possible.

About paragraph and table distaces: Word olways adds top and bottom
space, Writer taking the bigger one only by default, there are some
options on Tools-Options-Text document-General.

Further details about the problems you have can only be verified if
you attach a document. Please do so.

Reassigned to Michael.
