Description lduperval 2005-03-06 17:56:51 UTC
When the OOo splashscreen comes up on Linux (XFCE 4.2), it is always on top and
highjacks the desk top. I should be able to swith to another window and have
that window appear above the splash screen.

To see an example of this, please try Eclipse.

hi,

http://ooo.ximian.com/users-faq.html can help:

How do I turn off the splash screen ?

Edit your /[path-to-OOo]/program/sofficerc, and set Logo=0 instead of 1.

Comment 3 lduperval 2005-03-07 21:35:08 UTC
I don't want to close the splash screen. I want it not to highjack the screen.
Eclipse does it, I think Netbeans does it, etc. The splashscreen lets me know
that the application is loading, especially on a slow machine, so I find it
useful for that. However, taking over the desktop is not correct behavioour.

I'm reopening as an enhancement request.

Can someone with the proper admin permissions change the type to enhancement,
please?

Thanks,

defect -> enhancement
Comment 6 mci 2005-03-08 09:33:05 UTC
This is just the same as the splashscreen of KDE/Gnome/...

reassigned to requirements...
Comment 7 mci 2005-03-08 12:21:48 UTC
By the way:
- AFAIK the developers made some changes to the splash screen
- I don't know when but this shall be integrated in the next few versions...
Comment 8 kb0000 2005-06-08 22:43:04 UTC
probably not unconfirmed any more?
this bug is not happening on linux FC3 kde 3.4, with 00 680m104.
Comment 9 lduperval 2005-06-09 03:18:18 UTC
I still see it with XFCE 4.2.0. In the same environment, I don't see this issue
with Eclipse.

"still see it" is not very helpful. What version did you try this time?

I can happily put other windows in front of the splashscreen with m107
Comment 11 lduperval 2005-06-09 23:15:46 UTC
I still see the bug with 104. I was responding to the message prior to mine. I
still see the splash screen and I can't put a window in front of it.

Yep,

this seems to happen only using XFCE...

No problem on KDE3.4.x...
No problem on Gnome 2.10...
No problem on IceWM...

As of about 2.0.1 (m146) the splash screen no longer stayed on top.
As of 2.0.2 (m150) the splash screen obeys the Initial Workspace setting in the
Attributes setting for the parent (main OO) window.

yea! It's fixed!

This Issue requires more information ('needmoreinfo'), but has not been updated
within the last year. Please re-test with one of the latest versions of OOo -
the problem(s) may have already been addressed. Either use the recent stable
version: http://download.openoffice.org/index.html
or consider trying the new OOo 3 BETA (still in testing):
http://download.openoffice.org/3.0beta/

Please report back the outcome so this Issue may be closed or progressed as
necessary - otherwise it may be Resolved as Invalid in the future. You may also
wish to search for (and note) any duplicates of this Issue that may have
advanced further :

Since I reported it fixed and works for me 2 years ago, the splash screen
continues to keep to it's assigned window in 2.4.0 and does not bother me any
more. I can also lower it below other working windows, or raise the others after
the splash window appears.

Running Linux and WindowMaker 0.92 for desktop here.
I recommend closing this issue.
