Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 44166
Icon import function : old icons not correctly imported
Last modified: 2013-02-07 21:51:53 UTC
The problem concerns 1.1 users who have added several toolbar buttons with specific icons (icons available in OOo 1.1 share/ config/ symbol library or manually created). These heavy users have memorized each specific action with an icon, and they may have 5, 10 or more icons like this. OOo 2.0 does not provide icons for customization of toolbars, i.e. all displayed icons are already used by an existing function. If the user decides to choose the available icons he/she will have a long and painful process of memorizing another icon for each of its buttons. Through the import feature, the user can get back its old icons within share/ config/ symbol BUT then the icons are displayed differently : the transparency is not handled same. Take for example icon s_snow.bmp No wonder if the user rejects version 2.0. Request1 The icon import function should convert an OOo 1.1 compatible icon into an OOo 2.0 icon : - taking into account the transparency - automatically shrinking a square icon to 16x16 instead of flatly refusing to handle it; it is up to the user to decide if the resulting icon is acceptable or not. Request2 The icon import function can import more than one icon. However only the icons used by a customized button are memorized. It should be possible to memorize imported icons independent of the use, i.e. the import should create and store png icons to be used later. Request3 All standard OOo 1.1 icons should be available in the icon library, and already converted in OOo 2.0 format.
SBA: Reassigned to CJ.
CJ. Accepted. Changed target to ooo later.
I suggest this is marked as a duplicate of Issue 53206, as this may have progressed further. Again, due to the general lack of complaints / votes re. this Issue in 3yrs, I would believe these icons are no longer required... Regards Andrew
