Errata: - The "new" seagulls in TIFF format are here: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=43777
Created attachment 23378 [details] Maarten's designed buttons (icons) in png format
Created attachment 23379 [details] Homepage design screenshot. The orange buttons you see there need replaced with nicely designed ones.
I have added a screenshot of the design taken at 1024x screen resolution (see above attachments). This image should give you an idea about the dimensions of the buttons that need created and also of the environment in which they are placed. Cristian
The thing is that I'm not satisfied with the icons. I would like to have a bit more life added to these designs. Maybe a bit of the 'Nicu' bold style. I could experiment with this myself, but I've got more to do besides OOo and therefore I'd like to focus on the webdesign and not focus too much on finetuning seperate graphics.

* Dimensions Well, first I prefer having them in vector, but if that's not possible, or if you can't be as creative in a vector oriented program, np... still dimensions are good to know what you're designing for. I'm still not decided what i'm going to do, so I suggest design for these two sizes (w*h): 220*90 (large buttons, as jacqueline proposed, placed where the box carrying gulls image is now) 140*50 (more or less the size as the largest button now, ideal for placing below introduction text, or at right side (see current design)) * Base colours Well, use your intuition, or get them with an eye dropper tool. Maybe this list is of use: #06348C dark OOo blue #698ed1 Lighter blue #e9edf4 mid dark #ecf1f5 less dark #f2f6f9 lesser dark #f6f8fb almost white My idea was creating two buttons. One relatively blue one, maybe with a little blue'd colours, and a mouse over state showing all colours... maybe close to primary imho.

Forgot to mention; for making the buttons more accessible for non english speakers, I think adding some kind of icon is not a bad idea at all... see my suggestion: http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/23378/maarten-initial-icons.png

I created some buttons myself... still not perfect, but had to give it a go myself. I am thankful for the time you've all spend, but the styles were a bit too much on their own imho so far. When having to fit the design I made for the new HP, I believe the buttons created today fit the style better than any other submitted so far. I am not saying these are the final buttons, any new designs are still welcome, but I'd prefer somewhat better integrating buttons (style wise). I hope nobody is personally offended by me implementing these buttons. See http://sc40.sfo.collab.net for the latest buttons. I've also changed sizes a bit, not perfect also though when looking at pixels... but had to give Download a bit more importance. it's now 4/10 3/10 3/10th of the height.
I just want to add a couple of notes here: 1) When we ask for artwork without almost any guidelines, the work will be related to the subjective opinion of creator. 2) Art is implementing a new system for art request, for a better management. 3) If Maarteen wants to, we can call this work again after HP released.
Closing.
