Description moali 2002-05-02 22:03:33 UTC
The unix-like copy/paste function (copy by marking with the mouse and pasting
with a middle-mouse-button-click) does not work properly:
OOo copy and afterwards paste in another application works fine,
copy with some applications (kedit, konsole, kwrite - kde 1.1.2) and paste in
OOo does not work (nothing happens);
With some other source-applications (e.g. Netscape cummunicator 4.79) copy/paste
in this direction works fine too.
Between other apps (even StarOffice 5.2) - except OOo - no such problems appear.

If you need further information to work on this issue, please feel free to
contact me.

Joost: remark: AFAIK this is a problem of older versions of KDE which
weren't able to differentiate between XSelect and XClipboard. AFAIK
this is fixed in KDE3

Why was this no problem in StarOffice 5.2? With SO everything worked
fine!

I cannot use select/middle mouse button to copy and paste within OO
either.

I have:

OO 1.0.1, installed in my home directory

RedHat Linux 7.2 (updated)

Running gnome (gnome-core-1.4.0.4-38)

# uname -a
Linux mofo.meme.com 2.4.18-17.7.xsmp #1 SMP Tue Oct 8 12:37:04 EDT
2002 i686 unknown

I can select from my web browser, but when I use the middle button
to paste into OO writer, I get html! *blech* I will submit this as
another bug, but it seemed relevant.

mozilla-1.1-0
galeon-1.2.6-1

Sorry but these are all well known problems, but no OOo defects.
Pls. make a differrence between XSelection (Xcopy)- mouse action and
Copy+paste - keyboard/menu driven action.
XSelection:
KDE(2) apps: kde apps merge any clipboard format to the XSelection
format. Thus Copy in kde and Xpaste in OOo is the workaround until
also kde will be able to differentiate different clipboard formats
correct. Shall be fixed in KDE3.

Mozilla:
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123389
AFAIK fixed in Mozilla 1.3 and Phoenix.

> Why was this no problem in StarOffice 5.2?
SO52 was not capable to differentiate the different clipboard formats.
XSelection was also merged to the 'normal' Clipboard format.
XSelection didn't work at all in SO52.

details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
