Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 43732
Text style is lost when opening OO 1.1.3 presentations
Last modified: 2005-03-21 09:50:55 UTC
The styling information (font and its size) for the title and text of documents created in OpenOffice 1.1.3 were lost when those documents were opened in OpenOffice 2.0bc.
Reassigned.
Cannot confirm this (OOo2.0b+WinXP). Tested a presentation created with OOo1.1.3 with text in Tahoma and several font sizes. Text was OK. Other things were not, but this is another issue. :-( @ behraad Can you please attach a sample presentation that shows the defect? Does this happen to every old presentation that you have, or just to some of them. Is this maybe related to a certain font? Any other hints? Thanks.
behraad wrote to me, that he/she cannot reproduce the error with a freshly installed OOo1.9.79 any more. I will close the issue. If this problem should occour again or any other details get available, feel free to reopen it. Thanks.

Behraad wrote me privately again. I put his text here and I will attach his sent error message image as well: Hello, That change of text style problem happened to me again. I have attached the presentation as it should look like, the presentation after I opened it with OO 2.0 and saved it, and the totally destroyed presentation. Here is how it happened. I had the main presentation among my files. I tried opening a couple of presentations with OO 1.9.79 the other day and I think I tried to save this one under powerpoint format and then closed it. When I tried to open the presentation and work on it, the text styling was lost (8- MOSFET physics and operation_changed.sxi). I used my template to build another presentation the way the original one was (8- MOSFET physics and operation.sxi). The weired thing is I could not change the style of the text in the changed presentation from the stylist (I could change the font size, etc. manually). After opening and closing the document a couple of times in Open Office 1.1.4, suddenly all of the information got lost and I received an error message (I have attached a screenshot of the error, too). I was not able to open the origial presentation any longer (I was lucky that I had duplicated it!). Anyway, I hope this time I have provided enough information. Good luck, Behraad
Created attachment 24026 [details] error message when opening file (from behraad)
Created attachment 24032 [details] The presentation that has lost text styles
Created attachment 24033 [details] The original presentaion (the way it should be)
Created attachment 24034 [details] THe totally destroyed presentation (the one that did not open and produced the crash message)
Fully confirmed with OOo1.9.84+OOo1.1.3 on WinXP_SP2. I tested the attachments and description. Maybe Behraad ran into quite a series of somewhat connected bugs and shortcomings. I give my results and interpretations below: A) I opened the original presentation in both OOo1.1.3 and 1.9.84. It is not possible to change the text style (Outline1-9)using the stylist directly, but only by using the tabulator. In additional "normal" text frames the text can be changed directly choosing a style from the stylist however. This is (imho) a strange behaviour, but maybe the developers had their reasons. Fact is, that Behraads presentation uses the preformatted "title" and "outline" text fields. B) - Import of the original presentation in OOo1.9.84 worked fine. The preformatted "title" and "outline" text fields were OK. - I saved the document to a new file "presentation_x.sxi". - I loaded this into OOo1.1.3. Again everything's OK. - I saved the document to a new file "presentation_xx.sxi". - I closed OOo1.1.3 and reloaded "presentation_xx.sxi" into it. --> The "title" text field is not a "title" field any more, just a "normal" text field. Therefore it is wrongly formatted. That is equivalent to the attachment "..._changed" in this issue. C) Continuing B) one step further: - I saved this document to a new file "presentation_xxx.sxi". - I closed OOo1.1.3 and reloaded "presentation_xxx.sxi" into OOo1.1.3. - Crash message appears exactly as behraad describes. That is equivalent to the attachment "..._destroyed" in this issue. My "interpretation": - First, the "title" text field is wrongly converted to a "normal" text field, either during export from OOo1.9.84 or during import or export in OOo1.1.3 afterwards. I don't know. - Saving the file again then corrupts the file. - It is not clead to me where the reason for this behaviour lies (OOo1.9.84 or 1.1.x). The trigger is obviously the import and export into/from OOo1.9.84 since just repeatedly loading and saving the file in OOo1.1.3 only works fine. OK developers. This riddle is for you. Confirmed. Priority set to P3.
Hi matthias thanks for your help. You did a great work. This bug is already known and will be fixed in OOo2.0 with issue 44798. I set this issue to duplicate of issue 44798. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 44798 ***
I close this issue as duplicate.
