Description mark96 2005-02-24 11:42:51 UTC
When building a form for database (spreadsheet type/flat file) data entry and
record review, selecting the appropriate options allows one to only review
records, not make data entry.

write access to spreadsheet and flat file databases is currently simply not
implemented. Marked as enhancement.

If the divers are read-only, can Base call the appropriate application (Writer
or Calc) to edit the file when the user chooses 'Open' or 'Edit'. Finding the
file to edit it can be quite difficult. E.g., if you create a data source in the
Mail Merge Wizard, a csv file is created and put in a default location.

At the very least, Base should tell the user why they cannot Edit/Open a
database in write mode and give them a clue as to which document they must Open
to do it.

A true data import function is needed, not just ability to link to/read
spreadsheet or text files. I am unable to convert my office to OpenOffice.org
because we need to write to the imported data from the CSV files created from
FileMaker Pro export. The exported data really needs to be imported into a Base
database that can be further manipulated (new entries created).
