Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 4192
Save/Export presentations as plain text
Last modified: 2007-04-03 09:45:08 UTC
Often I have to write a summary of a presentation. For example, proceedings of a scientific conference (often to be submitted as TeX/LaTeX files) are often made this way. I make my presentations and posters with the OpenOffice Presenter. If the presentations could be saved or exported as plain text (or in TEX/LaTeX format) life would be easier. ISO-LATIN1 encoded text would be the best for me, but even plain ASCII would be nice. For presentations with plenty of formulae, TeX support would be great. I tried to circumvent this by 'Export => Web Page' and then 'Save as text' from the browser, but then HTML export is also practically one big image.
Reassigned to Christian.
This is not a bug. I change the Issue type to enhancement Hi Falko, please have a look about this enhancement.
ASCII export is one of the export filters that make hardly any sense for a presentation (that is layout orientated). Your request is unique and there are many workarounds possible (such as using Writer for such specific tasks). Nevertheless you can write yourself a little script that extracts the text right from the XML source.

I have the same request and the same problem: I need the document out of the presentation. The better option is "Export as .RTF" which would preserve headings, but if it is not possible, then "Export as .TXT" is also useful.
Please reopen this issue or provide a circumvention. If the presentation is mostly text, there is no way to make a document, except manually. Thank you.
