Hello to OpenOffice.org Team

Please consider a popular concept for OOo - Standalone OOo Reader with Access
Rights management

------------------------------------------------------
(A) Standalone OOo Reader -

An easier way to share OOo documents with people, who don’t have OOo installed
on their computers, is to use Standalone OOo reader. Can you check the
feasibility of providing such a reader at earliest?

Some of the desired features of this reader will be-

(1) It should enable a user to VIEW, COMMENT and PRINT OOo files.

(2) It should be a standalone reader i.e. a user should be able to use it
without the need of complete OOo’s Installation.

(3) If Possible there should be a single reader for all types of OOo files
e.g. Writer, Calc, Presentation etc.

(4) Same kind of ability to read Star Office files (Older or Newer formats).

(5) Freely downloadable / distributable.

(6) Size around 10 MB or so.

(7) If technically feasible then - No Need for Installation.

(8) Availability on all OSes, on Which OOo runs.

(9) Plug in for popular web browsers.

(10) It should support Access Rights Management for OOo files (See below for
more details).

Although OOo complete suit is freely available, but still there are many
people, who don’t want / or are not able to download/install the complete suit
for various reasons. In this scenario OOo reader seems the best solution for
easy file sharing.
------------------------------------------------------

(B) Better Access Rights management for OOo Files-
(This Issue has already been reported by the same reporter, under Issue No.
41096. URL is http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=41096 and is
being repeated, because it is directly related to the above discussed concept).

Presently OOo documents can be password protected but there is no way to
enforce document restrictions, similar to those offered by PDF files. Like -

Document printing
Content copying
Comment writing
Form filling
Document signing etc.

In other words, what other users can or cannot do with a document.

MSO has also started offering this kind of functionality. Is it possible for
OOo to move in this direction?
------------------------------------------------------

Everybody knows that It was Adobe’s *Reader*, which made their PDF format (and
Acrobat) so popular. Even MS provides such readers for its office files.

*Please Give a Serious thought to this suggestion*

Thanks.

*Restricted* OOo Files (As of now Hypothetical) must *Not* be openable in
other applications, as it can easily circumvent proposed Restrictions/Access
Rights.

OOo is an Open source Project/Product. What if users change the source code
and create their own versions of OOo, which do not follow the proposed Access
Rights/Restrictions?

Many applications support the open document format.
