Is this going to be fixed anytime soon? I have nearly a hundred Word
files that rely on transparency in text boxes. This capability is
important because it is this cpability that allows Word to be used as
a lightweight page layout program for generating things like product
sheets, flyers, etc.

Often, there is a need to overlay text on top of graphics or a
gradient background, something that is not possible unless text boxes
can have transparent backgrounds. (I filed issue 4932, which is
marked as a duplicate of this one, but it's not clear if any
corrective action will be taken.)

We've implemented the ability to do this recently, will work in (to be
built) SRX643d build, the word import export is also implemented to
use it.

Checked it with srx643f. This "new feature" will be available with
OpenOffice 643.
