Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 35030
Problems with viewing my MS Word resume using OpenOffice.
Last modified: 2004-10-07 10:11:31 UTC
Hi, I have just downloaded OpenOffice, I think it is great apart from one thing. I am no programmer, just a man who is is just getting into computers and can not afford microsoft's office so i thought i would give you guys a try! In OpenOffice.org 1.1.3, when i opened my resume (CV) which is a ms word document, for some reason, openoffice moved a section of my resume to the next page so there is a big space now between one section and the next, which does not happen if i open the same document in Microsoft Word!! If need be, I can send you this document so you can see what i mean!! Thanks.
So please, attach your resume. So that we can see if it's a "real" bug or give you advice to tune it.

I have now attached my resume to this problem, when you open it, hopefully you will see what i mean. When i open the document using Microsoft Word, there is no problem, it opens and displays exactly how it is supposed to, how i created it, but when i open it using OpenOffice (i downloaded the newest version of OpenOffice 1.1.3) it shows a big space between the Professional Memberships section and the Career History section! It is supposed to be directly after it like the other sections are displayed. Maybe it is because it would require that section to be continued on another page, but it should be no problem, it is no problem with MS Word!!! Thanks for your help resolving this matter.
I can see the problem. The text is inside a table cell, which break onto the next page. OO is not able to show this correctly (until version 1.1.x). Table cells will be able to break in OO 2.0. You can see this with the OO 2.0 snapshot build from the downloads section. See issue 2109 for further information. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 2109 ***
