Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 34918
Add actions "to next/lprevious/first/last document"
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:38:16 UTC
Using Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+F6 to navigate through open documents of the current application is common with Windows applications that open more than one document outside of a "main" window. The SHIFT key would be a modifier to go backwards through the window. On Windows the behavior is CTRL+TAB or CTRL+F6 goes first opened to last opened, CTRL+SHIFT+TAB or CTRL+SHIFT+F6 goes last opened to first opened. It would be great that if you are using Writer, if you are not inside of a table then Ctrl+Tab would switch to other Writer documents open. But if you are in a table it would tab through the cells in that table. I've wished this for Word for years, but MS refuses to change this behavior. So in Word Ctrl+Tab doesn't work as expected and you can only use Ctrl+F6. Kevin
SBA->ES: Please proceed. Thx.
Ctrl+Tab is already affected to other actions depending on the context (insert a tab in a table. move to another panel, cycle between tab pages in dialogs). If we affected this shortcut to the cycle between documents we would have to redefine (invent!) new shortcuts for the other functions mentioned whish would lead to endless inconsistencies and shortcut collisions. It is always possible to cycle with Alt+Tab (general travel between all windows) Ctrl+F6: it's already reserved to jump back to the document window when the focus is set in a toolbar or a floating window (Accessibility requirement) So, I cannot accept the enhancement wish as is. On the other hand, you *should* be able to customize this shortcut to the actions: "To the previous document" "To the next document" "To the first document" "To the last document"... ... but those actions don't exist in the customize dialog, so I change your enhancement to this.
Under "Tools - Customize - Keyboard/Toolbar" I miss following actions: "To the previous document" "To the next document" "To the first document" "To the last document" This would help to quickly cycle through opened documents.
I think that solution will work. Then a user could assign what ever shortcut keys they want to those actions. Thank you.
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
