Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 33766
Missing letters when opening MS Word 97 document
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:20:05 UTC
Opening a Word document gives mangled text, mainly in the first two lines. These should be: THE WATER SUITE – A CHALLENGE TO WESTERN THINKING Is our scientific universe of cause and effect too limited? These four stories of water development projects should challenge our thinking – says Bryant Myers. But they come out as: THE WATER SUITE–AALLENGENG These four stories of developmentprojects should challengoinkin The document is located at: http://www.worldvision.org.uk/resources/the_water_suite.doc Another problem with this document is that the paragraph "Stories from the front lines..." is centred when it should be left. Also the right margin line seems to be drawn in the wrong place.
MRU->MMAHER: strange... the document is imported with Redlines; but there are none to see when I opened the document with Word (tried with WW97, 2000 and 2003). Maybe a FastSave issue?
When you import the file, save in in .sxw and unpack the "content.xml", the first subelement of <office:body> is <text:tracked-changes text:tracked-changes="false">, followed by 44 changes, most of them with office:chg-author="Unknown" and office:chg-date-time="0-00-00" as attributes of the office:change-info subelement. Very few of the 44 changes contain any text, but the second one does contain the missing "CH" from the title. I can't guess where that leads to, but that's my $0,02.
