Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 33433
PDF-export should support black & white output
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:35:25 UTC
I love OOo because of the good PDF export capabilities and MS Office has often problems with PDF generation with Adobe Acrobat. But one feature is absolutely missing in OOo up to now. The possibilities to use the same features for export as can be used for printing. I use the PDF output to generate black&white handouts of my color slides and this is currently not possible with PDF export. Many other issues deal with the missing notes export so I suggest to provide all options from the print => options dialog equally to PDF export.

confirming, setting keywords, reassigning according to new RFE-process. original summary: "PDF-export with all the options from the printer dialog, especially black&white printing" I refined the summary to black & white export since another issue 17387 already exists for handout- and note-mode As workaround, use an external tool to convert the print-output to PDF, like ghostscript or extendedPDF (i.e. setup a "PDF-Printer")
If you want handouts, why produce a PDF ? Why not print directly ?
Because the person who prints the document is not necessarily the person who created the presentation. Example: Teacher provides his talks as Handouts on his website so that students can download and print them themselves. Teacher can not afford to print or copy his talk for 100 Students.
An additional reason for wanting this functionality - if handing a master copy to a commercial printing company in PDF format it allows the creator to assign which pages should or should not be in colour without seperate instructions. Very useful if the printer isn't very organised!
