In the word processor the existing facilities for entering cross referencing 
apply to such aspects as the page number, the cross reference description.

I do a lot of work with numbered paragraphs and sub paragraphs and it would be 
a  great enhancement to me if it were to be possible to enter a cross reference 
to a paragraph number

eg

"this is explained in paragraph 1.6. below"

Paragraph 1.6 would then have a header reference (heading 3 with auto 
numbering) containing the text to be referred to and if the paragaph numbering 
subsequently changes the cross reference would of course change too.

This facility is available in MS Word.

It is quite easy to reference to fields or such but there should be an option to
insert a reference to heading in the Insert | Cross-reference -dialog. You can
always set reference point, but it's more complicated.

It would be nice when inserting a reference that you for example could select a
style, then a paragraph and after that how the reference is inserted (numbering
if para has one, whole para text and so on).
