Description gyll 2004-08-15 12:50:33 UTC
SUMMARY: "Background watermark image wrong position when imported from MS Word"

1) I'm including this into P2 ("Functional area gets lost") because an image is
outside the page limits
2) the problem concerns the wrong positioning of a background image (watermark)
when imported from a MS Word file

THE PROBLEM:
I have a blank (or non-blank) page with a watermark word-art image in the middle
of the page in Word. When importing it into OO[1.1.2] it gets shifted to the
right of the page (it gets out of the "page size")

I'm also attaching a blank-page sample file to prove the issue.

definitely not P2. The graphic gets imported and can be moved to the intended
position. No crash, no freeze, no dataloss.

confirming problem. bugdoc opens fine in Word viewer, OOo 1.1.2 as well as OOo
1.9m49 move the image to the right, as described.

Having a closer look at the positioning attributes of the watermark background
image in Microsoft Word reveals the following:
- Horizontal position -2,73cm to column
- Vertical position 7,62cm below paragraph
- The actual position of the image doesn't seem to fit its positioning attributes.
- Set the rotation angle of the image from 299 degree to 0 degree. Now the
actual position of the image fits its positioning attributes.
Thus, I conclude that Mircosoft Word positions the unrotated image according to
its positioning attributes and then rotates it. This kind of positioning isn't
implemented in the Writer.

MRU->BH: as OD pointed out, this kind of position algorithm (for rotated
objects) needs to be implemented in OO Writer.
