[OpenOffice 641C, SuSE Linux 7.3] When a slide show was interrupted by ESC, it
will fall back to the last slide that was in the editing screen _before_ the
show was started. It would make more sense if the slides in the editor window
would _follow_ the actually presented slide, so that it could be interrupted
and re-started at any point (as in M$ PPT).

Reason: If you have interrupted a slide show (because you briefly want to show
another application, e.g. in a web browser), you are obliged to browse through
all the slides again ... pretty annoying when you are in front of 100 people ;-)

(yes, there is an option "always start with current slide", but this does not
help because the "current slide" is NOT the slide that was on-screen before the
presentation was started).

Hello Falko, this is an enhancement for Impress. Makes sense to
implement the missed function perhaps as option.

An alternative to "start here" would be to press <f5> [navigator]
after restarting the presentation -- you can then jump directly to
the page where you left off (but you need to know the page name)

However, another possible workaround is to set your
presentation to run "in a window" instead of
"default" -- since you indicate you are
running under linux (suse in particular) that
would imply a KDE environment. Using KDE's
multi-desktops, you can keep the presentation
"running" in one desktop and switch via the
taskbar (set it to autohide for more desktop
real estate) to another desktop to show the
"other application". Returning to the
presentation's desktop returns to the
presetation still in progress -- no
embarrasing "escape" to the editor mode.

Note a few caveats in "windowed" mode:

  1) the menu & tool bars will remain visible
UNLESS you switch to "fullscreen" within the
window PRIOR to starting the presentation
[this may be another defect or feature
request, but the "windowed fullscreen" key
sequence ctl-shft-j does not work WHILE the
presentation is in progress]

  2) even if you swith to full-windowed mode,
there will still be a toolbar along the left
edge [though I think that can be disabled]
AND there will be a mini stay-on-top dialog
that simply says "fullscreen" -- this is the
click-to-exit-from-fullscreen window, but
(thankfully) you can drag it "offscreen" so
it doesn't interfere with your presentation.

On the plus side, however, you can run multiple presentations
simultaneously and switch from one to the other without having to
exit one/load another/jump to the page you want/etc.

During my PhD defense, there was a bug in Impress: a critical figure
was not appearing so I had to re-add it. Then I had to restart the
presentation since the beginning in front of the audience...

Anyway, it's anecdotal. There's another reason to implement this
feature : during a PhD defense, the candidate usually prepares
additional slides in order to answer the commitee questions.
Imo, there should be an option in the contextual menu in slide views
mode to show the selected slide.

Sorry, as this is no keyfeature for the Q, it is considered for OO.o later.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
