Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 3222
Erroneous : Paste special (unformatted text)
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
I do a lot of transfer between Pegasus mail and a Text document under OpenOffice. Most of the job consists in copying a bit of text from an e-mail message in Pegasus mail (http://www.pmail.com/), going to SO, Edit>Paste Special>Unformatted text (and then reformatting it using styles). But about one time in 3 (or 2), I get the original text PLUS a few gibberish characters added at the end of the paste. Nothing much (usually between 2 and 5 chars, never more than 10 in my experience). but it is defintely annoying and probably a bug in the Clipboard management. Have fun Yves R
But in whose clipboard management...? ;-) Reassigned to Éric.
I cannot reproduce this. Please try to reproduce this and find which kind of text, selections causes this problem. Attach the text file to the issue and describe exactly what kind of "gibberish characters" you get.
Created attachment 1132 [details] test results of several paste-special with "added" chars
Created attachment 1133 [details] Test input data for Notepad loading and repeated Paste-special (see detailed YR message)
I have been giving it another try. ----------- end ------------- I select all the text in Notepad. And Copy it (to the [text] clipboard). Then, I open a new "text document" from the Windows icon bar. In the empty document page, I will go Edit>Paste Special... and selected "unformatted text" (the only available option, actually). the text is copied into the text document. About 3 times out of 4, I get the text plus a few chars isolated on an added line at the end. In the tests I just did the added chars were each time either nothing or the set of 4-5 chars (with no end-of-line included) as in: --- nothing --- --- nothing --- ˜### ›#x# --- nothing --- ?# ## m#x## ¶#### £### ¡#ˆ## --- nothing --- --- nothing --- ¤#0# I hope that despite the fact the "test" text is in French, somebody will be able to reproduce the issue. I have attached both the result of the operation (for clarification) and the original Notepad data to insure people can get it all including accented letters if that has any impact and it would not go easily thru the HTML form box). AdvThxance Yves R
Now I can reproduce it
ES->AMA: On Win98: - 641c -> as described (random amount/kind of trash cars) - 642 -> one hash at the end of the pasted selection. On both: crash when holding [Ctrl]+V during approx. 2 pages. On Win2000: - 641c -> 1 haas at the end of the pasted selection. - 642 -> everything seems to be ok. ES->roums: > I hope that despite the fact the "test" text is in French, > somebody will be able to reproduce the issue. T'inquiètes pas, on trouve toujours moyen de s'débrouiller ;-)
I've learned French for four years but this happens more than twenty- five years ago the last millenium. However, I'll check this bug and will ask JP about it.
AMA->ES: Please test the behaviour in our latest version. If it still occurs, please send this bug to CMC, who's responsible for the ASCII filter. Maybe there's an uninitialized variable in the filter which causes these behaviour.
Ok now in 644m4
