Start-programs-OOo-text document
Help-contents, Type 'paper' in search term
From paper size, select warning when incorrect
read a bit (not essential!)
in search term, type default
from default printer, select setting up

spurious(?) Save-Discard-Cancel dialogue....

Please perform a clean install of a later version (they will install on Win98):
1. Uninstall your version using the setup program, 
2. restart Win98, 
3. manually delete the old folder, 
4. install a later version. 
Then have a look if the bug still occurs.
