Description sprocketboy 2004-07-14 20:05:33 UTC
I am trying to generate a sheet of Avery 5167 Return Address Labels using
File->New->Labels. I enter my home address and click "New Document," but when
the sheet of labels is generated, the font is too big (the address goes beyond
the edge of each individual label).

So I select the whole sheet using Control-A and try to scale down the fonts of
all labels, but nothing happens. The number in the "Font Size" pulldown
changes, but the fonts of the labels themselves do not change size. Similarly,
attempting to change to a completely different font has no effect.

MRU->HI: pls have a look. Looks like it is because the labels are initially
"write protected"

A couple of comments.

First, I did not know that you could "write protect" labels, but I can see the
usefulness of that feature. However, for the novice to intermediate user (such
as myself), it is counter-intuitive to select the whole page, change the font,
and have nothing happen without even an explanation why.

I would suggest a couple of ways to fix this. First, suppose that a set of
labels *is* write-protected. If I try to change them, I should get a dialog box
saying "cannot make changes because sheet is write-protected, would you like me
to unprotect? Yes/No/Cancel."

Second, it would be far easier in the long run if I could set the default font
directly in the Label Generation Dialog Box (File->New->Labels) *before* I
clicked on the "New Document" button. It would be even better if OOWriter
remembered which font I used last time I generated address labels.

Thanks for your attention.

One more suggestion, in case someone *did* decide to implement the "choose label
font inside the label generation dialog" feature. A single-label preview using
the selected fonts and the entered address would be nice, just to tell me if the
generated label text is going to go "outside the lines."

Thanks again.

For this just enable the check box "Synchronize contents" on TabPage Options:
Menu File - New - Labels - Options
After creating a new label, modify the Label on top left and click to
"Synchronize labels" button.
For the way you did before, you have the possibility to edit all labels (frames)
manually for different recipients for example.
When you press Ctrl+A twice, you select the whole page outside the frames.
That's the cause why you can't change the frame content.
