Description splante 2002-02-18 23:37:47 UTC
OpenOffice 641C will not start after install. It gives the message:
  The application cannot be started.
The configuration file "/home/splante/.sversionrc" does not support the
  current version
Do you want to start the setup application to check your installation?
    <Yes> <No>
If I click <Yes>, I am given the opportunity to "repair" the current install.
This appears to quickly complete successfully and everything ends. However, when
I then try to execute soffice, I get the original ".sversionrc" dialog box. I've
tried deleting the ".sversionrc" file. It then gives a message indicating it's
go install again. I then go through the full workstation install and .sversionrc
is recreated. Following this install, however, I get the same ".sversionrc"
error dialog box on starting soffice.

[splante@guinness splante]$ pwd
/home/splante

I'm running Mandrake with kernel 2.4.8-26mdk and glibc version 2.2.4.
I have tried both of these scenerios with the same result:
  1. Initial install with /net option as root followed by workstation isntall as
myself
  2. Simple install as myself.

This is one of these 'can't reproduce' issues. We have no problem to
install and run OOo on Mandrake (have a look to issue 3127).
The only problem I can see in your description: the path to OOo isn't
correct: .sversionrc:
>[Versions]
>OpenOffice.org 641=file:///home-local/splante/OpenOffice.org641
and message box:
>"/home/splante/.sversionrc"
Comment 2 splante 2002-02-20 17:38:59 UTC
I don't see what you're saying is incorrect. My home directory is
/home/splante and the .sversionrc file is there. My home dir is an NFS
mount so the workstation install is in /home-local/splante. The
.sversionrc file contains a URL referencing the workstation install
dir: /home-local/splante/OpenOffice.org641.

I understand that this problem doesn't manifest itself on all
systems--is there something I can do to help identify what combination
of factors cause it? I noticed bug 2659 seemed to have the same
problem, but you never heard back from the guy. We have another new
install of Mandrake here with the same problem and I'd like to work
with you to resolve it.

I can't reproduce this issue on my mandrake and have no idea why it
won't start on your box. Meanwhile we are at version 1.0.1 and I had
never had a problem to make a standard or workstation installation.
Maybe a step by step description will help me.
